Nico Cathcart, Region Two Silver Award

  • Artist Awards

Artist Awards are given out to individual artists/teams who designed and completed the submitted mural. At current, the awards are given in five geographic regions based on where the mural was installed, not where the artist themselves resides.

    Eligibility
Any mural completed in the United States during the 2023 calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) is eligible for the 2024 Awards. For the purposes of this competition, a mural is defined as any piece of graphic artwork that is painted or applied directly to a wall, ceiling or other permanent substrate. The artwork itself can be permanent or temporary, and there is no size requirement. Only the artist that completed the mural (or the lead artist if completed by a team) may submit an entry.

International artists are eligible if the submitted mural was painted within the territorial boundaries of the United States and meets the guidelines listed above.

    Judging
Murals are scored anonymously by a rotating panel of judges that include fellow artists, community organizers, festival coordinators, and city government culture & arts directors from each of the five indicated US regions.

    Awards
Gold, silver and bronze awards are given for the top three winners in each of five U.S. regions. For a breakdown of these regions please see the Awards page. The top regional winners are then re-judged by a second panel to determine the overall national awards. Criteria for judging includes:

    1. Interpretation and clarity of the theme.
    2. Creativity, uniqueness, and originality.
    3. Quality of composition, balance, use of space and overall design.
    4. Skill, use of technique, and craftsmanship.
    5. Overall impression of the art.
